  • I want to cycle in Brussels, but I do not dare to cycle by myself;
  • I know how to ride a bike (the absolute minimum is to keep your balance and to ride a straight line);
  • I will follow the mandatory training in order to be reminded of the traffic rules and of how to be agile on a bike;
  • I want to team up with a Coach;
  • I promise to use my bicycle for two weeks, during which the Coach will accompany me during three two-way trips.
  • I am an experienced cyclist in Brussels and I am keen to share my experience;
  • I will follow the mandatory training on how to accompany a Biker;
  • I want to team up with a Biker;
  • I accompany these Bikers individually during the first three days of their Bike Experience, for three two-way trips.

This training, organised by GRACQ-Les Cyclistes Quotidiens or Pro Velo, teaches you how to ride your bike safely in traffic. It is partly theory and partly practice: in a safe and calm environment you get to acquaint yourself with your bike, after which the group of trainees and trainers moves into the real traffic. The training is mandatory and takes about three hours. It is organised in small groups and... free! This is the perfect time to gain self-confidence and test your reactions. Also, you gain a better insight into the traffic rules and your rights and obligations as a cyclist.
Once you have participated in the training, you get access to the search module to find a Coach.
Do come by bike! If you do not have one, you can borrow one for free at Pro Velo (subject to availability): make sure to book one in time.

Yes. We need to evaluate the Biker's capacity to ride a bike beforehand, because the Coach will only accompany the Biker during trips in traffic. In order to guarantee the participants' safety, it is necessary to pass the basic training first.

The training takes place on specific dates, with two possible time slots:

  • weekdays between 5 and 8 PM, at Pro Velo, Rue de Londres/Londenstraat 15, Ixelles/Elsene;
  • on Saturday afternoons between 2 and 5.30 PM in the Parc du Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark in Brussels.

You can change the date of your training yourself in your personal account, up to 48 hours before the training was supposed to take place. At shorter notice, with less than 48 hours to go before the training, write an email to info@bikeexperience.brussels so that your place in the group can be given to someone else.

This happens only very rarely. When the forecast says it will snow or the streets may freeze over, cancellations are possible. In such a case you will be informed as soon as possible.

This training is free and mandatory. The Coaches learn how to accompany and advise a Biker in traffic. In a pleasant training environment the Coaches learn, on the basis of a questions and answers session, how to best act. The training consists of a theoretical and a practical part. Bring your bike! Once you have participated in the training, you get access to the search module to find a Biker.

The training is mandatory for Coaches who have not been trained during previous editions of Bike Experience. We need to assess the cycling and coaching capacities of a Coach beforehand, because later the Coach and the Biker will be by themselves in Brussels traffic. The Coaches learn how to best accompany a Biker, and what to advise in Brussels traffic situations. Once you have participated in the training, you get access to the search module to find a Biker.

No, in that case further training is not necessary. Let us know via info@bikeexperience.brussels, 02 318 84 07, so that we can change this in your profile.

The training usually takes place on a Saturday afternoon at Pro Velo, Rue de Londres/Londenstraat 15 in Ixelles/Elsene. The practical part (outside) will be in the same area. Bring your bike.

No, but the practical part may be cancelled, so that only the theoretical part remains.

We try to find the best match between the routes of a Biker and a Coach. The Coach will never have to do a detour of more than two km (aerial view) to reach the starting point of his/her Biker. If there is more than one possible match, it is up to the participants to team up with the person of their preference.

The Coach's detour is calculated with the formula (a) + (b) + (c) – (d) , in which (a) is the distance from the Coach's starting point to the Biker's, (b) the distance covered with the Biker, ( c) the distance for the Coach to get to their own destination, minus (d) the normal distance for the Coach to reach their destination from their starting point.

Try to change the route:

  • Take as point of departure a road intersection, or a station...;
  • Choose another route altogether;
  • Or try again later: new Bikers/Coaches will register.

Still no hit? Talk about Bike Experience to your colleagues, friends, neighbours... They may be interested in participating too, and broaden the pool.

Once the mandatory trainings have been accomplished, a Biker/Coach can access the search tool in their account. Try to find Bikers/Coaches whose routes match your routes best and have a look at their profiles. Send a message to get acquainted or immediately send a request to team up. For further information, consult the Manual.

Once the mandatory trainings have been accomplished, a Biker/Coach can access the search tool in their account. Enter the name of the person you know in the search tool.

Ideally, the Biker is accompanied by the Coach during the first couple of days of the Bike Experience, in order to continue the rest of the two weeks by themselves. Agree among yourselves when the joint trips start.

This can be discussed with the Coach. Remember, however, that the Coach has agreed to accompany you on a specific route that was in your profile. He/She may therefore refuse to join you in an unexpected detour.

As soon as your duo request has been accepted, contact your Biker/Coach by email to exchange your details and agree on the three days of supervision.

If your duo is cancelled, we ask you to get in touch with another Biker/Coach to form a new duo. We request that the person who cancelled the cooperation provides a reason to the Biker/Coach in question.

Yes, this is fine. We do expect, however, that the Coach accompanies each Biker individually. This is important for the quality of the coaching, and this way a maximum number of Coaches can actually accompany a Biker. As soon as the three sessions are over, you can approach a new Biker to accompany him/her.

Yes. Has it been confirmed that you attended the basic training? Click on 'Borrow a bike' in your dashboard. Use the reservation form to borrow a city bike for free during two weeks or to rent, with a discount, an electric (transport) bike or a foldable bike. You will have to leave a deposit of 150 euros in cash when you pick up the bike at Pro Velo, which will be refunded at the end of your Bike Experience. You can also choose to use a Villo! Bike. Here you can find the rates and the general conditions for rental bikes.

Yes, subject to availability. Reserve a Pro Velo bike for free by clicking on Reserve a bike, under Training in your account.

Check the general conditions for a solution and/or get in touch with Pro Velo as soon as possible: 02 502 73 55 or info@provelo.org.

Unfortunately this is not possible. If you would like to buy a bike, have a look at the list of Brussels bicycle shops, or buy one second-hand.
