Who can participate in Bike Experience?

Bike Experience is open to anyone aged 18 years or over, who knows how to ride a bike (i.e. can at least keep their balance and ride in a straight line) and wants to use it to get around Brussels.

I have already completed Coach/Biker training from a previous edition. Do I need to do it again?

No, in this case there’s no need to retrain. Contact us to be paired up with a buddy by email: info@bikeexperience.brussels or phone 02 318 84 07.

Can I buy the bike that was loaned to me?

No, this is unfortunately not possible. If you wish to purchase a bike, you can consult the list of bicycle dealers in Brussels or buy a used one. Learn more.

What if I have a problem with a loaned bike during the Bike Experience?

Contact Pro Velo as soon as possible on 02 502 73 55 or via info@provelo.org.

Is it mandatory to know how to ride a bicycle to subscribe?

Yes, a bit. It’s important to be able to hold your balance on a bicycle and know the basics. Training is focused on riding in a city. If you have any doubts about your level, give us a call.

I don’t own a bike, can I borrow one for my two-week Bike Experience supervision?

Yes, subject to availability. Once you’ve completed the Afterwork Bike Experience training, you can borrow a bike for free or rent an electric or folding for two weeks at a discounted price. A deposit of 150€ or 300€ for electric or folding bike will be required and returned to you at the end of your Bike Experience. Check out terms and conditions.

I have no bicycle yet. May I borrow one for the bike afterwork?

Sure, if we are on no shortage. Book yours at Pro Velo, using the subscription form

How do I organise my journeys and schedules under supervision?

Directly with your buddy. As soon as your coaching request has been confirmed contact your buddy by email to exchange details, and decide on specific journeys and your three days of supervision.

If the weather’s really bad, is the city cycle training cancelled?

Normally it won’t be. If you’re well-equipped you can ride in any weather condition, or almost. Cancellations are exceptional. In case of snow, ice or torrential rain, training sessions may be postponed. You will be notified as soon as possible.

Something came up. Can I cancel my city cycle training?

Yes of course. To ensure smooth organisation however, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible by email info@bikeexperience.brussels, in order to give others the opportunity to participate.

How is matching done?

Buddies are primarily matched based on proximity of routes. If you wish to be accompanied by a coach whom you know, you can. Get in touch.

Should I follow the Afterwork Cycle Training before being coached?

Yes, it's important. The aim of this short training session is to review best practices in urban cycling together and put them into practice on the streets of Brussels. We get to know each other better and organise pairing over drinks at the end of the session.

Isn’t riding in a city dangerous?

Like all modes of transport, urban cycling carries risks. With the right attitude and equipment, however, these risks are greatly reduced. It’s the reason why these training sessions were created. At the same time, a number of studies demonstrate the benefits of cycling every day. Learn more.

Do you have to pay for training or coaching?

No, Bike Experience is completely free of charge free action to get people saddled up. Each first Wednesday of the month, we learn how to safely bike and we offer you the opportunity to leave with a coach that will accompanied you on your daily journeys. Part of Bike for Brussels, this action is organized by Pro Velo with the support of Bruxelles Mobilité.

Can I make a detour on the agreed route (to drop off my children, do shopping...)?

It's possible. You can negotiate this together with your coach. Bear in mind that the Coach has committed to accompanying you on the specific route you requested, so it's a matter of finding an agreement that works for both of you.

What is referring?

By taking part in referring, you invite someone or are invited to one of our Bike Experience events. The winning pair will win one of our many bike prizes!

How does it work?

  • Being a referrer: Invite as many referees as possible to take part in one of our Bike Experience Afterworks. When they register on our website, tell them to mention your name in the related field.
  • If you come to a Bike Experience after being recommended by your referrer, let us know when you register!

At every event, a winning pair will be selected. The pair is composed of the:

  • Sponsor who has recommended the most bikers to take part in one of our Bike Experience Afterworks.
  • One of the referees invited by a referrer will be selected by a random draw during the afterwork.

Who can take part?

The referrer: any person who has already taken part in a Bike Experience event or registered for a future event.

The referee: any person who wants to register for a Bike Experience event.

How are the random draw and this competition organised?

The random draw will take place during the drinks portion of Bike Experience events.

The competition is organised based on the GDPR data protection rules. The data remains confidential, except during the announcing of the results when the randomly drawn referee will be announced aloud.

Enjoy!
